The bison's temperament is unpredictable. It usually appears peaceful, unconcerned, even lazy yet may attack anything often without warning or apparent reason. A bison can move at speeds of up to thirty-five miles per hour and cover long distances at a lumbering gallop.

Their most obvious weapons are the horns that both male and female have but the head with its massive skull and powerful neck can be used as a battering ram - effectively using the momentum produced by two thousand pounds moving at thirty miles per hour. The hind legs can kill or maim with devastating effect. At the time bison ran wild, they were rated second only to the Alaska brown bear as a potential killer more dangerous than the grizzly bear. In the words of early naturalists they were a dangerous, savage animal who feared no other animal and in prime condition could best any foe.

During the rutting or mating season, fights often take place between bulls. The herd exhibits much restlessness during the breeding season when the older bulls rejoin the herd. The animals are belligerent, unpredictable and most dangerous.

Texas artist, Michael Boyett, is one of the most important artists of the American West. His paintings and sculptures have been exhibited in galleries, museums and private collections throughout the world.

Mr. Boyett's work is produced in his own Texas foundry under his personal supervision.

Michael Boyett grew up in a military environment. His father, a career officer in the US Air Force, moved frequently across the US, exposing Michael and his family to much of the diverse history and romance of our country. As a child, using his vivid imagination, Michael began to draw imaginary scenes of frontier America and early recognition of his artistic talent encouraged him to explore various forms of art. Combining this growing talent with his natural love for his nation's heritage and landscape, seemed to create an almost inseparable pathway for his career.

After attending the University of Texas Art School and graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University, Michael joined the US Army, where he served as an infantryman during the worst years of the Vietnam War. It was there that he was wounded in action in an enemy ambush. That, along with other experiences in Vietnam, burned a deep sensitivity into his nature which is vividly expressed in his works of art today.

Interest in heroic historical America, coupled with desire for realism, lead to the development of his moving and powerful style. He dramatically stresses the qualities of movement and detail and because of his love for American history - he is careful to portray every detail with precise authenticity . Michael believes that each sculpture should give the viewer the sensation that he has actually witnessed an event in history. It is equally important to him to pay tribute to the significant people and events that have shaped the unique heritage of our country.

As a professional fine artist, Michael has established a considerable reputation in the art world. His sculptures have been produced and sold by various nationally known corporations, fine art galleries, museums, heads of state, military institutions and distributed throughout the US and many foreign countries to thousands of collectors. His range of talent has been proven by being able to sculpt in scales from miniature to monumental with consistent skill and drama.

Michael Boyett guarantees that each sculpture from his studio is an excellent piece of original fine art, bearing his signature, copyright date, along with the limited edition number on each work of art. All sculptures are made in the USA.
