| a note from the seller I was hired to go out to a company in the Montana/Wyoming area that made backpacks that converted into cots to sleep on. The investor contacted me to come re-engineer their company. It was neat for he flew his jet out to pick me up just to look at their operation; I ended up doing a nice amount of business with them. However I was paid a fee to come and look. The operations manager and I became friendly and he invited me to come to his home for dinner to eat elk. He took me after dinner to meet Vic Lemmon the artist, they were friends. We went down in his basement where he spent most of his time when he was not taking people out on hunts. He showed me the piece of art work and I thought "Wow!" It had the greatest detail I had ever seen on a sculpture. I saw how he was hand making them, it was in about 8 sections and he had to put the cast together, and the detail down to the horse shoe nails, seeing them bent over and veins in the hands, it was spectacular to me. The piece I was looking at was his first unit that he was taking to the show at the cowboy hall of fame. I later found out that it finished 2nd that year, 84 I think? A pair of wood carved and hand painted ducks finished 1st. He told me the price was a lot of money, for me for art since at that time I wasn't a collector. However I thought about it that night, I usually wasted a lot of money on things that did not last or other things that would have no value so I told him I would take it. So he delivered it to me. I bought the first piece he had for sale, however I had him number it #6 since it was my number, I tried to match up on other things. So I have had it since 1984. It has always been an eye catcher to people, those that know good art to those that don't. God Bless R.C. |
